Let’s get a little more in depth on the last post about using time wisely and planning. What I wanted to write about today was something that one of my subscribers asked me in an email.
What are some simple steps that we can take to be successful?
Let me start by saying that there is never any guarantee of success. Whether we are talking about life in general or your online business, success is relative to the individual. But too many online marketers never allow themselves to get to the point of success because they never take action. Or they quit at the first sign of resistance.
But here are 3 simple steps to success that if you are willing to follow absolutely and unequivocally; will work.
You may have heard of the 3 P’s before. I googled this and there are many articles about this on the internet. Some are quite close to what I am saying here. This is my own take on it and what I’ve told many people who I’ve helped before.
Purpose
The first step is to have a purpose. Whatever the task be specific. Dr. Stephen Covey wrote a book called the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The second habit is to “Begin with the end in mind.”
In other words, don’t just say I want to make enough money to support my family. How much specifically is that? Where do you want to make the money from? Is it just about the money? If so you may be going down the wrong path. If you’re just starting out consider picking one thing that you are good at or have the most experience at and go with it. But lay out in your mind and on paper exactly what you want to accomplish.
Preparation
The dictionary defines preparation as, “The action or process of making ready or being made ready for use or consideration.” Ask yourself what it’s going to take to reach your goal. What knowledge or resources do I lack? Do I need help? Who is the expert? Abraham Lincoln is quoted as saying, “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first 4 sharpening the axe.”
Be careful though, because too many people get stuck in this step. They never feel ready or prepared enough and therefore never take action. I refer back to the definition above, which holds one word more important than all the rest; ACTION.
Perseverance
Never ever quit. Your purpose is either achievable or not. You should have known that going in. Every failure is a learning experience. Before he became what some consider one of the greatest presidents ever, Lincoln had 28 years of failures on his resume. Successful people look at failure as an opportunity. If you think you can’t do something you are right.
